WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – The Eastern Connecticut State University women's volleyball team virtually led from start to finish in a 25-12, 25-12, 25-17 sweep of Albertus Magnus College Tuesday night at Francis E. Geissler Gymnasium.
Eastern (8-2) led 8-3 in the first set, 10-3 in the second and 5-0 in the third in downing Albertus (2-6) for the sixth straight time. The programs resumed the rivalry last year after a 33-year hiatus.
Led by junior middle Caryn Sibiskie (Rockfall) and senior setter Fabiana Della-Monica (Newark, DE), Eastern got service aces from seven different players in posting a program-record 22. Sibiskie led everyone with eight, Della-Monica adding five and seniors Nina Zimmitti (East Hampton) and Amanda Tyler (Longmeadow, MA) and juniors Amanda Tourjee (Waterford) and Michelle Valliere (Lebanon) had two each, and senior Adrianna Mihalek (Woodbury) one.
Senior middle Kay Mullen (Fairhaven, MA) attacked at .583 and Mihalek .353 for Eastern. Mullen had eight kills and just one error and Mihalek nine kills and three errors.
Sibiskie was credited with three block assists and Della-Monica 16 assists.
Freshman Ashley David led the Falcons with five kills, senior Amber Cohens with four. Junior Marielis Muriel and freshman Nashalie Bayona led Albertus with eight digs each and Muriel had a team-high seven assists.
Eastern hosts Plymouth State University in its Little East Conference opener Saturday, also facing Nichols College in a non-conference match at 4 p.m.
