WALTHAM, Mass. – The Eastern Connecticut State University baseball team won its ninth game in the last 12, scoring three key runs in the top of the sixth on the way to a 14-3 non-conference win over Brandeis University Thursday night at Stein Field.
After Brandeis (16-20) tied the score with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, Eastern (21-16) bounced back with the go-ahead run in the fifth, then tacked on three runs in the sixth on two hits and two errors. Freshman Owen Marica (Haddam) and junior John Mesagno (Tappan, NY) drove in runs with a sacrifice fly and single, respectively, in the inning.
Senior William Coleman (Northford) and sophomore Eric Jaillet (Ivoryton) each scored three runs and senior Ryan Hood (Arlington, MA) reached safely in his tenth straight game with a sixth-inning walk. Jaillet, freshman Matt Malcom (East Lyme) and Mesagno all had two hits and Malcom, seniors Dale Keller (Oxford) and Alexander White (West Hartford) all drove in two runs.
Sophomore lefty Jordan Federer (Plainfield), the second of six Eastern pitchers, allowed a hit and two walks with a strikeout in 1 2/3 innings for his third win in four decisions.
