Sophomore forward Mya Villard of Cromwell led Eastern to a 3-0 week and helped the Warriors stretch their winning streak to six by averaging 24.0 points and 9.7 rebounds. In addition to being named the program’s Athlete-of-the-Week for the second time this year, she was selected to the NEWBA (New England Women’s Basketball Association) Division III honor roll for the second time this year. The 5-foot-10 inch high school All-Stater led the team in scoring in two of the games and in rebounding in two. Villard improved her season field goal percentage to 52.7 by sinking 62.8 percent of her field goals (27-of-43) and 85.7 percent of her free throws (18-of-21). Now 6-3 in the Little East with four straight conference victories, Eastern got a career-high 35 points from Villard in a 110-94 midweek home win over Western Connecticut. She was 13-of-22 from the floor and 9-of-10 from the stripe with 12 rebounds. The next night, she grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds in a 65-63 non-conference road victory at Dean College, and concluded the week with 22 points on 7-of-8 field goals and 8-of-9 free throws in a 72-55 road win over Plymouth State. Villard ranks fourth in the LEC in scoring (19.0), third in field goal percentage (52.9) and eighth in free throw percentage (69.0).
