WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Eastern Connecticut State University senior John Boisette (East Hartford) finished eighth in the finals of both the 100 and 200 meters on the second day of the New England Open Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at the Lee Track & Field Complex at Weston Field.
Boisette, who had earned Division III All-New England recognition in both events last weekend, had guaranteed himself All-New England honors in Friday's preliminaries by advancing after winning his heat in the 200 (PR of 21.90) and placing eighth overall in the 100 (PR of 10.83). He was the only Division III athlete to advance in the 200 and one of only two in the 100.
Five athletes advanced to the final of both the 100 and 200, with Nigel Hill of the University of Rhode Island winning both events. Boisette was clocked in 10.98 in Saturday's 100 and 22.29 in the 200.
At the Open, Boisette became the program's first athlete to achieve All-New England status outdoors in at least 15 years and the first to earn that recognition in the 100 since record-holder Corey Simpson repeated the honor in 2011.
