Men's Track & Field: Three Earn Points in Individual Events at Yellow Jacket Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Warriors competed in the AIC Yellow Jacket Invitational for the first time, a meet which included upwards of 20 institutions in both the men's and women's meet. The majority of the competing institutions are affiliated with the Division II level, but also included, among others, UMass Dartmouth, Rhode Island College and Keene State from the Little East Conference.  Numerous events ran between 8-12 heats, with upwards of 80 individuals competing in a number of events. The top eight individuals and first eight relays scored points. The meet was the third of five regular-season invitationals during the outdoor season.

Three different individuals accounted for the team's 21 points in individual events as the Warriors placed 13th among 20 scoring teams.

Field Highlights

All-New England sophomore jumper Chidebe Ndibe (West Hartford) was one of two Eastern individuals to score in more than one event. Ndibe was fourth in a field of 34 in the long jump and eighth in the triple jump among 21 competitors.

Track Highlights

Competing in two events with more than 50 individuals in each, junior Nick Afragola (Killingworth) added points in two events, matching Ndibe with six. He was fifth in a field of 59 in the 200 (22.46) and seventh among 56 competitors in the 100 (11.27).  Afragola was  third in the 200 among Division III runners.

Senior captain Lawrence McGill (New Haven) chipped in six points with the highest finish of the day (third) involving Eastern male or female competitors. Running against 45 other competitors, McGill was third in a time of 51.05, which was .41 behind second-place finisher Connor Murphy of Division II Merrimack and less than a second off the pace of winner Zach Miller of Southern Maine.

The 4x100 relay picked up the team's final three points, taking sixth place in a field of 14 in a time of 44.02.

The Warriors visit Mount Holyoke College Saturday for an 11 a.m. invitational before hosting their own invitational Friday, April 21 at 2 p.m. in the lead-up to the Little East Conference/New England Alliance Championships April 29 at Westfield State University. That championship meet will be the final one for the majority of Eastern's team members.
