WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Two members of the Eastern Connecticut State University outdoor track & field program have been recognized by the Little East Conference in its first weekly report of the spring.
Based upon their performances when the Warriors opened their outdoor season this past Saturday at the non-scoring Wesleyan University Spring Classic, junior Nick Afragola (Killingworth) was selected as LEC Male Track Athlete-of-the-Week and freshman Ahriyan Brown (New Britain) was picked as LEC Female Track Rookie-of-the-Week.
Afragola was fourth among 25 runners in the 100 (11.75) at Wesleyan University. The time was the second-fastest in the career of Afragola, who qualified for last spring’s New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships, recording a time of 11.76 in that meet.
Coming off a productive first indoor season, Brown was second in the 100 (13.42) in a field of 30 at Wesleyan and fifth in the 200 in a personal-best time of 27.41 in a field of 25. Brown was running the 100 for the first time.
The Warriors return to action Saturday at 11 a.m. at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Spring Invitational.
