Rachel Berkowsky: So Much To Do, So Little Time To Do It!
In her own words: “The day after my finals ended, I began my three week study abroad experience in Florence, Italy. From May 14th to June 2nd, I had the opportunity to learn about the history of Florence and traveled to seven other cities in Italy. The class I took was called "Health in the Mediterranean" - each class was a different field trip throughout the city, including canoeing down the Arno River, power-walking and biking, and making fresh pasta and pesto sauce. My professor was a former professional Italian soccer player and he took our class to visit the soccer training facilities and the Italian soccer history museum!  A week after I came home from Italy, my family and I went on a Caribbean cruise which stopped at St. Thomas, Curaçao, Aruba and St. Kitts. For the remainder of the summer, I worked as a counselor in Easton, MA at Camp Maplewood -- my 16th summer going to this camp!”

About Rachel: Rachel’s non-stop summer was keeping with her non-stop school year, whereshe is active year-round with soccer in the fall, and track & field in the winter and spring. Her athletic involvement has not hampered her academic achievements, however, as she is high honors students who has qualified for the Little East Conferee Academic Honor Roll in all three sports in every year of eligibility and earned an E-Club Outstanding Scholar-Athlete Award (3.50+ cumulative GPA) in her first year of eligibility last year. A team captain and former program record-holder at 1000 meters, Rachel holds the second-fastest time ever in the 1,000 and is listed among the program’s Top 10 fastest in both the 600 and 800. In soccer, the Stoughton, MA native has appeared in 40 matches in three years with seven goals and 16 points. As a junior, she set the program record for the fastest hat track in 4:46 at the University of Southern Maine. Rachel is majoring in Sport & Leisure Management and will be joined this year by her freshman sister, Alyssa, who tentatively plans on running track, as well.
